Canadian Maple
Large round headed deciduous tree well known as the Canadian emblem.
Features long stalked leaves with distinctive triangular lobes and toothed margins. Dark green leaves turn bright red in Autumn. Bare branches are covered with tiny red flowers in Spring. These are followed by red winged seeds.
Condition: Suited to deep fertile soils in full sun. Plant into cultivated soil and keep well mulch.
Planting ideas and uses:
- Can be coppiced, i.e. cut back severely to produce many new branches
- Excellent feature tree with bold Autumn foliage colour
- Beautiful feature tree suited to cool hilly sites
